About Ae’s food trucks in Hāna, MauiThree trucks, one family.

A red taco trailer, a red Thai Fusion truck and a white burger truck, all in one lot on Hāna Highway, all on one phone number.

Ae’s family

Tacos, Thai and a burger.

On Google, the taco trailer is Ae’s Sassy Tacos, listed at 5124 Hana Hwy. The name is lettered in blue script on its side, under the FISH TACOS art.

It is one of three family trucks that share one lot in Hāna town.

The red Ae’s Thai Kitchen truck serves Thai Fusion: noodles, curries, soups and coconut plates.

The white truck, also lettered Ae’s Thai Kitchen with a burger on its logo, does the burgers.

Their Facebook page describes itself as a food truck with Thai, tacos and burgers, and signs off “AE’s family”.

The logo reads Ae’s Thai Kitchen, Thai Fusion, with a spatula and a ladle around a red and green ring.

It prints on their shirts and trucker hats too, one version for Thai Fusion and one for the Burger Truck.

Their own promo reel asks one question over every dish: what is your favorite food? American, Mexican or Thai.

That is the whole idea. Nobody in the car has to agree.

The boards

Hand-lettered, every board.

The menus live on chalkboards in wooden A-frames lined up in front of the trucks: a taco board, a specials board, a “Today all day” board, a drinks board, a Thai board, a local favorites board, a vegan board and the burger boards.

They are drawn by hand in pink, green, yellow and orange chalk, with little chili peppers, a hibiscus and a pineapple in the corners.

The vegan board signs off with “Have a beautiful day!!”

The spot

Under the trees in Hāna town.

The trucks park in a food-truck lot on Hāna Highway near the Hana Ranch Store, two minutes from Hāna Bay.

Picnic tables sit out front under big shade trees, with umbrellas and potted plants around the trucks.

It is a short drive from Waiʻānapanapa State Park and Hāmoa Beach, and the natural stop on the way to or from Kīpahulu and the Pipiwai Trail.

We had the Mahi-mahi fish tacos and shrimp tacos and both were amazing. Makes my top 10 list for fish tacos from all our travels

Not sure why this place doesn’t have better ratings. This was the best food we had on Maui. The Mahi Mahi nachos were incredible. Wish it wasn’t so far; would have gotten it every day of the trip.

Their tacos are the best! They were so full of flavor, their fish was cooked perfect and the sauce they put on was so good!! their staff and service was also great! I would definitely come back next time I’m in Hawaii

As a San Diego native, I felt kind of silly ordering tacos in Hawaii. Like, we have world class tacos on every corner back home, why not try something different out here? But the two taco plate was probably the cheapest lunch option in the food truck area, and I was craving some mahi. I ended up doing one mahi and one shrimp, on corn. Served up with lime and fresh jalapeno slices, they hit the spot before we headed to Waiʻānapanapa. Honestly, the grilled mahi was good, but that shrimp taco might have been the best thing I’ve eaten on Maui -- and that includes the dinner we had at Banyan Tree. I’m still thinking about it a day later, and kinda bummed it’s so far away from our spot in Lahaina. Shoutout to the duo working the grill -- they were good vibes to match the good food.

We tried this Mexican food truck and ordered nachos and the taco salad bowl. The portions were solid and everything was fresh, flavorful, and really filling.

The nachos were loaded with toppings including cheese, guacamole, hot sauce, sour cream, with plenty of chicken. The taco bowl was also a nice choice with a good mix of vegetables, protein, and served in a crispy shell that gave it a fun crunch.

Overall, the food was tasty and satisfying, definitely worth a quick stop if you’re passing by.
